Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze how the implementation of the literacy monitoring book in monitoring the development of fourth-grade students' literacy skills at SDN Baban I. Literacy as one of the basic competencies at the elementary school level is not enough to be built only through habituation, but also requires a planned monitoring system so that student development can be observed more objectively and measurably. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study type involving 26 students as research subjects. Data collection was carried out through participatory observation for four weeks. In its implementation, the literacy monitoring book was used as the main instrument to assess students' abilities by referring to several indicators, namely the level of confidence, the appropriateness of the story content, and clarity in speaking. In addition, the students' literacy notebooks were used as supporting data to observe the reading activities carried out by students. The results showed that most students were in the medium category, meaning they were able to understand the content of the reading, although in their delivery they still relied on notes made. On the other hand, there were several students who had reached the high category, while a small number were still in the low category. The implementation of this literacy monitoring book was proven to be able to present more systematic and objective data, while providing a clearer picture of the development of students' abilities. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of literacy monitoring books has a positive impact on improving students' literacy skills, as well as helping to make literacy activities more focused, measurable, and meaningful in the learning process.
