Abstract

The phenomenon of managerial myopia has become a serious challenge in management control systems, especially in the competitive and short-term result-oriented fast fashion industry. This study aims to analyze the main causes of myopia, its impact on strategic decision-making, and relevant control strategies to support business sustainability. The method used is a literature review with a qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing academic sources such as journals, articles, books, and related research reports. The analysis was conducted by examining empirical and conceptual findings regarding the causes of myopia, control practices, and mitigation strategies that have been applied in the fast fashion industry as well as other sectors. The results show that managerial myopia is triggered by pressure to achieve short-term targets, rigid organizational structures, and incentive systems that are not aligned with strategic vision. Its impacts include reduced allocation of innovative investments, weakened quality of strategic decisions, increased reputational risks, and hindered digital transformation and sustainability initiatives. Recommended strategies include incentive reform, implementation of the Balanced Scorecard, strengthening governance, and leveraging digital technology. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that improving management control systems is key to balancing short-term and long-term goals. The novelty of this research lies in emphasizing that the fast fashion industry can serve as a critical laboratory for understanding the dynamics of managerial myopia while formulating control strategies that support sustainability.
