Abstract

This study aims to improve students' understanding of flat shapes (bangun datar) material through the use of image media in grade V at SDN 067259. The issue faced is that many students have difficulty understanding the concept of flat shapes, which hinders their learning process. This research uses the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method with a cycle design, consisting of two cycles. Each cycle includes the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. In Cycle 1, the use of image media showed an improvement in students' learning outcomes, although some students still faced difficulties in understanding the concept of flat shapes. In Cycle 2, the image media was updated with more varied and interactive images, as well as involving group discussions. The test results in Cycle 2 showed a significant improvement, with the average score of students rising from 75 in Cycle 1 to 85 in Cycle 2. Observations and questionnaires indicated that students were more active and engaged in learning after using image media and gave positive responses to the media. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the use of image media is effective in improving students' understanding of flat shapes. The use of image media also increases student involvement in learning, improves their social skills, and enhances learning motivation. Therefore, image media can be an effective alternative in teaching mathematics, particularly in the material of flat shapes.
