Abstract

Learning motivation does not only arise from within students, but is also influenced by external factors, especially the role of parents as the first and main educators. The purpose of this study is to find out the role of parents on student learning motivation, identify supporting and inhibiting factors, and find out changes in students who are motivated and not motivated by parents. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observations, and documentation with research subjects of guardians of students and fourth grade students of MIS Darunnajah Cipining Bogor. The results of the study show that there are 5 roles of parents in motivating student learning, namely: providing encouragement so that students are enthusiastic about learning, giving awards or gifts, creating a conducive or comfortable environment, providing support so that they do not give up easily, and introducing new things that trigger curiosity. The obstacles faced by parents in carrying out their roles include limited space and the economy so that parents cannot provide special learning spaces and adequate learning infrastructure. The results of this study are expected to provide a comprehensive overview of effective forms of parental involvement in increasing student learning motivation.
