SEJARAH KAJIAN AL-QUR’AN DI MALAYSIA

The study of the Qur'an in Malaysia shows significant development in line with the intellectual and institutional dynamics of Islam in the region. This study aims to analyze the development of Qur'anic studies in Malaysia by highlighting the traditions of translation, interpretation, and the intellectual genealogy of its exegetes. This study uses a qualitative approach based on literature with an intellectual history framework. Data was obtained from the works of interpretation and translation of the Qur'an by Malaysian mufassir and relevant academic literature, then analyzed through historical, typological, and intellectual genealogy analysis. The results show that tafsir studies in Malaysia developed through two main traditions, namely oral and written, and were dominated by the tahlili method of interpretation with variations in the form of original works, translations, and literal interpretations. In addition, the development of tafsir in Malaysia is closely related to the network of scholars in the Archipelago and the Middle East, particularly Indonesia, which shaped the character and scientific orientation of tafsir in Malaysia.
