Living Qur’an Sebagai Kearifan Lokal Islam dalam Tradisi Megengan Menyambut Bulan Suci Ramadhan di Desa Notogiwang, Paninggaran

The Megengan tradition is a Javanese cultural heritage observed before the month of Ramadan as a reminder of the obligation to practice self-restraint during fasting. This tradition was introduced by the Walisongo, who spread Islam using an approach that integrated local life without erasing native culture. In Notogiwang Village, this tradition consists of three main activities: Tutupan, Bersih, and Kiriman, each reflecting spiritual and social values. Tutupan is held at the mosque to mark the end of yasinan activities, which are then replaced by tadarus during Ramadan. Bersih, similar to nyadran, involves cleaning the graves of ancestors as a sign of respect. Meanwhile, Kiriman is the act of sharing food with family and neighbors to strengthen social ties. The Megengan tradition is also interpreted as a form of Living Qur’an, a phenomenon where the Qur’an is practiced in daily life through da’wah values, prayers for ancestors, and the cultivation of brotherhood. This tradition fosters a spirit of mutual cooperation, closeness, social care, and the preservation of local cultural identity.
