Abstract

Mahmun (Student ID: 218430220) authored a thesis titled “The Effectiveness of Qur'an Memorization on Students’ Cognitive Intelligence and Morality (A Case Study of Grade XI Students at Madrasah Aliyah, Pondok Pesantren Darunnajah 2 Cipining, Bogor)”, under the Islamic Religious Education Program, Postgraduate Studies at the Institute of Qur’anic Sciences (IIQ) Jakarta, 2022.

The study aimed to examine the level and quality of Qur’an memorization among grade XI students at MA Darunnajah 2 Cipining, as well as to evaluate how effectively Qur’an memorization contributes to enhancing their cognitive abilities and moral character.

A qualitative research approach was employed, with data gathered through observations, interviews, and document analysis. The data analysis process involved data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing along with verification.

The findings revealed two key points:

The level and quality of Qur’an memorization among the students were notably high and could be substantiated through various indicators, including proper tajwid practice (tahsin) prior to memorization, guidance from qualified mentors (mursyids), strong internal motivation, clear memorization targets, dedicated memorization time, effective memorization methods, and periodic Qur’an memorization assessments.

Qur’an memorization activities were found to significantly enhance students' cognitive intelligence and moral development. This was evident from their active participation as boarding students, involvement in academic and organizational activities, leadership roles among peers, strong academic and extracurricular achievements, participation in IMAMA (student leadership program), engagement in moral studies, and consistent discipline in both dormitory and school routines.
