Pencegahan Otitis Media Akut Pada Anak Di Desa Laha Dengan Menggunakan Pendekatan Komunikasi, Informasi, Dan Edukasi (KIE)

Acute Otitis Media (AOM) is an acute inflammation of the middle ear that remains one of the major public health problems, particularly among children. It is estimated that around 70% of children experience one or more episodes of otitis media before reaching the age of three. The lack of public knowledge—especially among parents—regarding the causes, symptoms, and preventive measures of AOM is one of the main factors contributing to the high incidence of this disease in the community. This community service activity was carried out in Laha Village in 2023 with the aim of improving public knowledge and awareness regarding the prevention of acute otitis media in children through the Communication, Information, and Education (CIE) approach. The activity took place on September 19, 2023, in Laha Village, with a total of 32 participants. The implementation methods included health education sessions, distribution of informational materials (leaflets and posters), and interactive discussions with parents and health cadres. The program focused on enhancing understanding of the importance of ear hygiene, prevention of respiratory tract infections, and early recognition of AOM symptoms. The community service activity successfully increased public knowledge regarding efforts to prevent acute otitis media. Therefore, the CIE approach proved effective in raising community awareness of the importance of preventing acute otitis media in children. It is expected that similar programs will be implemented continuously to help reduce the incidence of AOM in the community.
